Program: Medical Billing & Coding

Program Description: Medical billing and coding workers are the health care professionals in charge of processing patient data such as treatment records and related insurance information. Medical insurance billers and coders are tasked with coding a patients diagnosis along with a request for payments from patients insurance company. Visalia Adult School's goal is to provide students with knowledge and skills necessary to work in a variety of billing and coding positions in the medical field. Students will learn the process of billing and how to handle a patient from the initial encounter through properly managing the accounts receivable. In addition to submitting claims to insurance carriers, the process of billing may include reviewing medical records, verifying patient benefits, submitting a secondary claim, posting payments, and appealing the insurance carriers decision.
